Conversion optimization is critical for online businesses. You can get all the traffic in the world, if you are unable to convert your visitors into customers, your traffic means nothing. There are hundreds of tools out there that can help you with different things. Instead of listing every single tool, I am going to show you the ones that I have used and have proven to be the most effective tools on a small budget.

A/B testing and multivariate testing tools

The whole point of conversion optimization is to run tests to determine if your hypothesis is right, and that your change will actually improve the conversion rate. These are your must have tools.

Optimizely: this is the biggest player in the market for a/b testing. Currently they have a whole range of tools for marketers, and developers called Optimizely X.

Visual Website Optimizer: this is a very easy to use, but powerful A/B testing tool.

Heatmap & scrollmap tracking

This tool allows you to learn what do people do on your site, where they click and how far down your website page do they scroll. You can learn a lot about what your visitors’ behavior on your site and how you can do to improve the performance of your website.

Hotjar: this is by far the best heatmap tool that I have used – it’s free to start. All in one analytics tools: recordings, conversion funnels, form analysis, feedback polls, surveys. Very easy to use.

SessionCam: this is pretty good at recording visitors’ sessions on your website or landing page.

Clicktale: this is a little bit expensive, but really good.

Mouseflow: this does everything from clickmaps, heatmaps, scrollmaps, to recorded user sessions

Usability testing tools

Usability testing is an essential step to ensure your site is easy to use and creates no obstacles for conversions. If your site is difficult to use or has usability problems, it will result in poor conversions. These tools help you figure it out where, how and why.

UserTesting.com: this site provides the biggest marketplace to find testers. The pricing is reasonable as well. You can get videos and audio of your target market using your site. You can usually get results within couple hours, sometimes as soon as 1 hour.

Open Hallway: I like their monthly fixed fee option where you can do as many tests per month as you lik. You can also recruit users from the marketplace.

TryMyUI: you can have as many people as you want to test your site for only $99.

Ethnio– you can recruit your own testers from website visitors using this tool.

Landing page creation

Landing pages are essential if you are doing any type of promotion or registration. There are many tools you can use to create your own landing pages. Often these sites already provide many optimized landing page designs to choose from.

Unbounce: The leader in landing page creator tool market. You can easily build high-converting landing pages for your campaign.

Leadpages: Another good DIY landing page creator. Very easy to use. It also comes with other features like lead capture pop-ups, mobile opt-in, a/b testing & analytics.

Lander: Super simple to quickly build pages, no cost for unlimited landing pages.

Cross-browser and cross-device testing

These tools will help you make sure your site look flawless across different browsers and different devices.

Email testing

Litmus: this tool allows you to test your email across different devices.

ReturnPath: optimize your email across different devices

Browser testing

Cross Browser Testing:  Cross browser testing on real browsers. Testing tool with 750+ browsers – Android devices, iPhones, iPads, Windows, & OSX.

SauceLabs: Testing cross different browsers and platforms

Mobile devices

Perfecto Mobile: mobile device testing

Device Anywhere: Ensure quality by testing your mobile app on real mobile devices.

Open Device Lab: grass roots community movement. Shared community pools of interenet connedcted devices for testing purposes of web and app developers.

Good luck on your optimization journey. Let me know if you know of any awesome tool.
